Euroshorts Film Festival

For the very first time, Dortmund invites Europe to the EuroShorts Film Festival! A week full of excitement, laughter and thought-provoking films awaits you - terrific entertainment from European filmmakers.

Europe visiting friends – a phrase that is often used and sounds good in advertising. But in Dortmund it is lived! 81 different nations feel at home here in the heart of North Rhine-Westphalia. Dortmund is diverse, full of color and lived diversity. Even if some outsiders still associate Dortmund with steel and coal – our city is anything but gray!

During Europe Week, film festivals on various topics are offered in four different arthouse cinemas. Every evening, the audience is spoiled for choice: they choose the two best films of the day. These are presented again on the last evening in the Dortmund Theater and judged by an expert jury from politics, media and culture.

The film festivals are:

The moderators of the Euroshorts Film Festival

Lea Ganzek

Lea Ganzek

moderates "Colorfulity" and "European Responsibility"
Hi, I'm Lea – born in the Ruhr region, a filmmaker and master's student at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences. After completing my bachelor's degree, I made several short films, including Dämmerstatus, which was funded by the Film and Media Foundation NRW.
When it comes to storytelling, I'm particularly interested in fantastical subjects and unconventional perspectives—especially from a female perspective. It's precisely this open, curious perspective that I bring to the stage.
As a moderator at the Euroshorts Festival, I'm looking forward to meeting filmmakers, sparking conversations, and providing the audience with exciting insights – without any rigid protocol, but with a lot of heart and interest in real stories.
Anna Maria Heyne

hosted "Laughing Across the Borders" and "United in Friendship" at the Schauburg and the Roxy
Hey everyone!
I'm Anna Maria – an actress and your presenter at this year's Euroshorts Festival for two evenings. As someone who has been on stage and in front of the camera myself, I know how much heart and soul, courage, and passion go into every single film.
That's precisely why I'm particularly looking forward to accompanying your works, sharing the excitement with you, and creating space for real encounters - at eye level, with curiosity and a lot of enthusiasm for what makes cinema so special.
I’m looking forward to inspiring conversations, new creative impulses – and of course to all of you!
Britt Lorenzen

Britt Lorenzen

moderates the closing gala, the finale at the Theater Dortmund
I'm Britt - a native of Flensburg, a person of heart and I found my calling over 20 years ago: to build bridges in projects and on stages, to act as a translator between the podium and the (professional) audience and, above all, to listen carefully (which is much more difficult than speaking).
Why does this triad mean something to me and the Euroshorts Film Festival in particular? We all have a passion for something. Mine is to give voice to ideas, stories, and projects and to ask the right questions. My favorite question: What does that mean in concrete terms? Curiosity begins with mystery. The question mark is the most seductive symbol we know. The transmission of knowledge should be mysterious—an artfully wrapped gift that people will be happy to unwrap. A good knowledge transmitter must create hunger and awaken a thirst for knowledge. Transmitting knowledge is an art of seduction—the oldest in the world. Because passing on knowledge means being human. You convey this with your films. Your (moving) images and stories are what stick in people's minds—what a cool synergy.
Here’s to what’s to come – let’s continue together!

The jury of the Euroshorts Film Festival

Robert Pfeffer

Welcome to the jury, Robert!
We are delighted to welcome Robert Pfeffer as a member of our jury! He has been working as an editor for film and series for over 20 years and continues to work for RTL – one of Germany's largest TV broadcasters.
Robert took his first steps on the theater stage at a young age and discovered his passion for dramaturgy and stories early on.
With his experience and his trained eye, he enriches our jury in a very special way.

Giuliana Barthel

Welcome to the jury, Giuliana!
has already made several short films – including Mother’s Wish, Star and 10,119.
Since 2022 she has been working as a junior producer at 5.9 Filmproduktion and in the same year founded the Cconnectfilmfestival, which is dedicated to promoting young film talents in NRW.
With a fresh perspective, creative energy and a keen sense for new voices, she brings a young perspective to our jury at the Euroshorts Film Festival 2025.
We are very much looking forward to your perspective on European short film cinema!

Bettina Bergmann

Welcome to the jury, Bettina!
Bettina Bergmann is an editor – and is well-versed in strong stories, quirky characters, and surprising twists.
She doesn’t just read – she senses when a text works.
It’s all the more wonderful that she is now also reading with us on the jury.
We look forward to your insightful perspective and clear words!

Florian Linke
